So - as if we didn't love Lisa Jo enough already... she announced today that she is changing the link up to 10pm EST instead of midnight... so the fun over on Twitter starts a little earlier - but we are all still up for the prompt (so for this West Coaster this is all Win-Win!)
But - first - the fine print: if you don't know what FMF is! Five Minute Fridays are hosted by Lisa Jo Baker. It is open to anyone, so to learn more about it - and to jump in yourself (the more the merrier!) or just to find a linky to see what everyone is writing about today - click HERE! The idea is to simply write... for Five Minutes flat... no editing, no deep thinking - or at least REthinking, no spell check - just write! Let it flow! We all write using a prompt that Lisa posts at one minute past midnight Friday morning (EST.) I'm loving the community of amazing bloggers and the creativity that flows from these magical Five Minutes!
So - here goes: Five Minute Friday -RED ...
{GO}
RED is bold... it is a statement color. It's a little tough to be introverted and shy in Red!
I have had a favorite red sweater that I wore only a handful of times, a shade of red lipstick swiped on for special occassions, and a few pairs of red shoes that I love... but I usually back away from Red... it's a bit too bold... too Look at Me... too confident.
However - when shopping for new furniture a couple of years ago, we just couldn't get over this gorgeous chenille red couch and loveseat. We left and went back several times... trying to decide if we would actually be able to live with and love it!
In real life, God had been calling me to take risk... to live bold... to stand up tall in who I
The hours spent in prayer... the conversations that lingered slow over coffee... the family game nights and holiday celebrations... the casual get togethers and weekly meetings... everything felt charged and on purpose... yet warm and relaxed! It felt like life was being released and stirred up. Hope and Faith and Beauty was making itself at home in our little living room in a new way and it wasn't just us that noticed it!
Friends and family - (some of whom couldn't really believe we bought a red couch!) would comment on the new look and find themselves somewhat amazed at how much they didn't hate it! Some even went as far as to say they loved it... a few went looking for their own red pieces to add to their homes in hopes of welcoming in something new!
Bringing in a splash of bold color freed us up in our regular lives and stirred up a bit of boldness that we had been looking for!
It sounds silly - but it's been a couple of years now - and many shifts began that Fall - when Red became our focus and seeped right in deep.
Red represents Blood and Life... Warmth and Beauty... it is Passion and Love and Energy and Confidence and Protection from Fear and Anxiety and really, who doesn't want a living room that gives all of that?
{STOP}
Well - that WAS extremely Random! I didn't really want to write about my furniture... but there ya go! Random RED...

ReplyDeletei would LOVE red furniture..or at least the pillows. lol I'm still working toward that boldness. I do love your couch!
ReplyDeleteThere ya go! I LOVE it! I SO almost wrote about my red wall in my entryway and then changed tracks... Sigh. But everything you said - those are the reasons why I love red too. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed this!! :)
Yes to living boldly and yes to the warmth of red. I always think of warmth when I see it. A warm heart and hand living boldly? Sounds like a wonderful person {and you are!}
ReplyDeleteWell I just LOVE your red couch and loveseat. And yes, my goodness, we are kindred again, aren't we. Can't wait for you to see my red living room! Yes. The whole thing. I love the boldness that comes with grace - where we're free to grow and be. Love your words my friend. They stir my heart.
ReplyDeleteLove those warm fall colors between the couch and the pillows. I've always hesitated with red in my decor because of the boldness, but seeing your couch makes me want to go decorate with red! :-)
ReplyDeleteYay for random bold posts about furniture, Karrilee! And your place looks like you have had a makeover (the BLOG!) - I must have not been in awhile- but it looks so lovely!

I so want to plant my butt on your red couch and drink coffee and chat waaaay too late into the night. I happen to love red at least in furniture. You'll have to come to my home someday and you'll see what I mean. I went through a vintage red phase and well, let's just say we were living bold. I actually really love the random red furniture post.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Inspiration! I love your "red"!!!! Have a lovely day, sweet friend!!
ReplyDeleteI love when God uses a physical object to teach us a spiritual lesson. I have often thought of red as to bold and to 'look at' but after reading several of the #FMF post I realize that it can mean so much more. I may need to go buy me a red sweater, red shoes or even a red couch.
ReplyDeleteThe couch is beautiful! Love how everyone is looking at red in such different ways :)Happy Friday, girl!
ReplyDeleteLoved this take on "red" - and I get it, too. There was a day last year that I went all crazy and got a french manicure but instead of white tips I got aqua tips. And I wore those to my day job in all their glory. :) Be bold.
ReplyDeleteLove your red couch too! Funny how similar our posts were this week. Thanks for sharing about taking risks and making boldness a way of life. I needed to hear that today!
ReplyDeleteRed is a color I haven't yet fully embraced. I fear it's too bold for me at times. I don't have any red furniture, but I had a red purse at one time! Love you gal!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! It's one of my favorite colors. And I love that God's also been speaking to you about living bold!

Girl, I'd feel right at home in your living room! ;) Love red....and proud of you for choosing to live boldly! (and the designer in me has to tell you--did you know red shows the least amount of "dirt and grime" compared to any other color on the wheel?!? ... oh man, there's a blog post in there, too..." :)
ReplyDeleteCompletely gorgeous couch, all that it has inspired in your home sounds wonderful and memorable. Have a blessed week. Tara.
