Dream a Bunch of Little Dreams With Me... A Five Minute Friday post

I prefer to write as soon as the prompt goes up on Twitter on Thursday evenings, but the timing was off last night and I saw the prompt and my Honey came in the door and I got distracted... and this One Word, y'all!? There are so many different directions one could go and I hate to have time to consider them all... it makes it feel a bit less authentic somehow for me.  I woke up with all the paths I could walk this word along, so instead of just picking one - I sat outside and quieted my soul. I sipped some coffee and listened to the symphony of summer waking up all around me... So here I sit, refreshed, mind cleared, and ready to start my timer - actually unsure of where this will go! So this is an actual, for realsies, spontaneous Five Minute FRIDAY post, my friends! Let's see what I will say!

This is Five Minute Friday and our Word Prompt for the day is: DREAM

{GO}
Dream...

I am one of those people who rarely, if ever, remember my dreams. If I remember it, it must be God trying to talk to me. (If I remember it, it usually is God trying to talk to me!)

We all have Dreams - some that we share, boldy - wanting others to know of and champion us on our way to reaching for them... and others that we don't dare whisper aloud - for fear that they won't come true, or maybe that they will...

"Hope is a waking dream." Aristotle said, and Eleanor Roosevelt said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.”

Hope. Beauty. Dreams.
I think many of us, if we could but tilt our heads, squint our eyes, and see our lives lived out from a different perspective - --many of us would find that we are, right now, living a dream that we never knew we longed for.

Life has a way of throwing us curve balls and whether we dodge them or catch them with stinging palms and shaky arms, we are caught off guard and so often I think what we are striving for... building on... dreaming of... well-- I wonder how often the Lord comes along us to whisper a new way, or to shift our minds and alter our path just a tiny bit here and a little turn there because I can dream up the life I want, but I what I truly want is the life He has dreamed up and fashioned for me.

His is better.
It always is.

The life He has for me will always lead to living a dream come true - even if it wasn't my dream to start with.  I am finding that now.

I have written of it many times - how for all of my growing up years, under the surface of what I thought I wanted, was a longing to be a Mom.  It's in my DNA and I mothered people long before I birthed my girlie.

I have loved the hands- on nurturing... the guiding of a life and protecting of a heart... even the feeding and clothing and (let's be real... not always the) laundering.  (*Remember: Hindsight and dreamy filters and all that!)

When our Only grew up and moved out, honestly - I thought (as did so many others) that I would fall apart a little bit. That I would need to marathon Netflix for days and have help getting out of the fetal position.  Being a Mom - and a 'good' Mom, at that - had accidentally become one of my only dreams.

I felt that I was at the end of a dream. It was hard, and a little sad. I battled feeling empty and fought off thoughts like, "Well, now what? What am I now?"

But I quickly realized that at the end of a dream is a dream come true and here is what I am learning:
We never stop dreaming anew!

As long as we have breath and hope and life - we will dream... we are made for it! --Made for the wild hope and crazy adventure and take-your-breath-away beauty of partnering with God and dreaming for whatever comes next!

{STOP}

If I could offer any advice on dreaming, it would be this... to dream a bunch of little dreams!
“Hold fast to dreams,
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird,
That cannot fly.”
                       ― Langston Hughes
I'm not saying to not have focus or drive on the main thing that you are called to, but keep your options open and your plans in pencil for the Lord always has more than you can ask or think!

And as one Dream becomes a Dream Come True...
He will open up a new dream,
and He invites us to fly!

Five Minute Fridays gives us the chance to dive right in and share what He puts on our hearts! Click here to read what others have to say about "DREAM"

{The FMF lowdown: I can't say it enough, really - I love my tribe! The gathering happens on Twitter on Thursday nights and then  we write our hearts out and hit publish all over the interwebs on Thursday and Friday (and sometimes on Tuesdays!) It's where we encourage and uplift... where we share prayer requests and praise reports... where we talk food and friends and we find support and kindred hearts and we are reminded that life is good and God is good and we are not alone... and then we all write for five minutes flat, a flash mob of wordsmiths letting our hearts and our fingers do the talking tapping and we hit publish before we can second guess it all away. We'd love to have you join us!}

Oh ...the fine print: if you don't know what FMF is!  Five Minute Fridays have been hosted by Lisa Jo Baker.  Now we gather over at Kate Motaung's.  FMF is open to anyone, so to learn more about it - and to jump in yourself (the more the merrier!) or just to find a linky to see what everyone is writing about today - click HERE!  The idea is to simply write... for Five Minutes flat... no editing, no deep thinking - or at least REthinking, no spell check - just write! Let it flow! We all write using a prompt that Kate posts at 10pm Thursday night (EST.)  I'm loving the community of amazing bloggers and the creativity that flows from these magical Five Minutes!

P.S. - I know... as a Mom of Littles (or just anyone really!), it's hard to find the balance between mothering and wifing (?) and work/dreams/church/all.the.things life! So many put their dreams on hold. There is a time for that, for sure. But let it be a short time. Just a little break, if needed. We really were made to Dream... and part of Self-Care includes dreaming.

  1. "Keep your plans in pencil."

    I want that on a pillow. Or a t-shirt.

    Almost nothing in my life has turned out as I planned, and yet I don't lament that. It's better. I would not have chosen to walk through some of the valleys I have, but I know Jesus far better for having done so. I learn every day that His plans are always better than mine!

  2. I love this. It is so beautifully written and so many quotes to pull from it. I'll have to pin this, so I can come back and read it again. :)

  5. 'The end of a dream is a dream come true'---this is gold! What a positively lovely way to look at change. And that this gives us room for more dreams, new ones. Great post :)

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by, Sabrina! I have to admit - this new outlook is, well, new! But it is positive and I am finding that it really does make change less scary and make room for new Dreams to start too - and those are both seriously really good things!
