Hero - Five Minute Friday

It's Thursday night, ya'll! That means we gather up and party over on Twitter, waiting for the prompt... encouraging and praying, offering support and laughs and love.  I love this Community and it doesn't matter what has gone on in my week, come Thursday night, I can not wait to settle in, with this gathering of Awesome that is #fmfparty!

Oh but - first - the fine print: if you don't know what FMF is!  Five Minute Fridays are hosted by Lisa Jo Baker.  It is open to anyone, so to learn more about it - and to jump in yourself (the more the merrier!) or just to find a linky to see what everyone is writing about today - click HERE!  The idea is to simply write... for Five Minutes flat... no editing, no deep thinking - or at least REthinking, no spell check - just write! Let it flow! We all write using a prompt that Lisa posts at 10pm Thursday night (EST.)  I'm loving the community of amazing bloggers and the creativity that flows from these magical Five Minutes!

So - here goes: Five Minute Friday - The Word Prompt is: HERO

{GO}

Yeah... that's our Girlie.  We are kinda fond of her!  We are pretty much over the top, head over heels in love.  Always have been. Always will be.

Here we are... not quite empty nesters and we find ourselves teetering between reality and denial.

We don't want our Littles to grow up.  We want them to be sheilded and safe... we want them to live protected and perfect and -well, that's not reality and the reality is - that's not really living either!

I never thought of being my girlie's hero.  She wrote that I was once for school when she was in middle school. Yeah - middle school, ya'll... and she still liked me! (And yes I kept that! You know, for evidence!) but what I didn't anticipate is how much of a hero she would grown up to be for us!

She is the best of both of us and so much all her own.

She is not perfect and life has not always been charmed and scripted out... but she is grace and she is love... she is wisdom and honor and when she laughs, joy spills out into every corner and when she cries, oxygen holds it's breath.  She is for justice and forgiveness, for second chances and fresh starts; she is growing tall into who He has created her to be and it's been an honor to watch her grow... to stretch out... to fill up to overflowing all that she is becoming.

And before my very eyes... before her Daddy's... she is becoming our Hero!

We are blessed... we really do all three like each other!  In the midst of a couple of hard high school years, when any one of us could have hardened our hearts and built walls... we determined to choose love... to speak life... and she would proclaim, as only she could, "I LIKE you, Mama... everyone loves their Mom - but I really, really like you! You're my favorite!"

{STOP}

Right back at ya, Baby! Right back at ya!

  1. I have this kind of relationship with my mom. We are super close. It's funny, isn't it when your kids come to an age where you begin to admire who they are who they are becoming. When they're little, you love them to pieces but to be able to take a look at your kids and see the things you admire in them as they grow into themselves is a gift.

  2. It's an extra special FMF when we are neighbors, It just is. I hope I get to meet this sweet girl of yours one of these days soon. Maybe it's the similar family structure, but it just gives me so much hope and encouragement for my own as she's growing up. Your writing sings tonight, and your mama's heart shines through with love. How could she not turn out this lovely - on the inside and the outside? Your daughter - your family is indeed something to cherish!

  4. I am so glad to read this post this morning. I've been away from the FMF crew for a few weeks, but I am so glad to be back.

    Your daughter looks JUST like you. In fact, in that first photo, I thought she WAS you!

    I am so glad that there are mothers who are much further ahead of me blogging about their parenting path. My kids are 4.5 and 5 months and sometimes it is so hard to see the big picture when you're swimming in the mundane of the day today.

    1. And it is so nice to HAVE you back! (And thanks for the compliment... I think she is gorgeous - of course, I see a lot of her Daddy in her too but it's always nice when people see me as well!) Ah yes - your Littles are still - well, little! It can feel so mundane, but you are building a foundation and there is just nothing mundane about that, friend!

    1. Amen Anita! I think we try so hard to be an example and to raise them up and point them in the right ways... it can come as a wonderful surprise when we see that they are inspiring us... that they are a hero to us as well!

    1. Ah yes... we hold on to those little treasures, don't we? I am thankful that I have her still here with us... in a season when many are not at home, or not quite grown up into a hero yet... but she is attending college locally, and we all benefit from getting to love on her a bit longer having her still in the same house! (As I said... I know the time is coming... but I am grateful that it is not here yet!)

    1. Oh Lisa... I am very blessed indeed, and this I know! I jot them down one by one and try my best to be mindful and not take them for granted! It really IS nice to know and hear and remember that families can choose to love - even through the tricky teen/college years and remain close and honor one another! So grateful that you stopped by!

  13. Oh Karrilee, what a mama. What a woman. I love your eyes that really see your girl. These lines:
    "she is wisdom and honor and when she laughs, joy spills out into every corner and when she cries, oxygen holds it's breath. She is for justice and forgiveness, for second chances and fresh starts..."
    No wonder she's your hero, and it makes perfect sense that you'd be hers, too. xoxo

  15. Love this, Karrilee.
    The bond between my mom and I is strong, too, which means more, I think because it wasn't between her and hers. So glad for this relationship you two share.
