I missed the party (#FMFParty) last night... I simply ran out of time this week. (We won't talk about how thanks to a special SOMEONE, I discovered a YouTube series that required my immediate attention! OK - maybe not 'required' but it felt like something close to that!) I missed the sisterhood, the fellowship, the laughter... but while I am packed up and heading out of town for a retreat a little later today (to get in a little of ALL of that!) I didn't want to skip out on our Free Write completely!
First - the fine print if you don't know what FMF is! Five Minute Fridays are hosted by Lisa Jo Baker. It is open to anyone, so to learn more about it - and to jump in yourself (the more the merrier!) or just to find a linky to see what everyone is writing about today - click HERE! The idea is to simply write... for Five Minutes flat... no editing, no deep thinking - or at least REthinking, no spell check - just write! Let it flow! We all write using a prompt that Lisa posts at one minute past midnight Friday morning (EST.) I'm loving the community of amazing bloggers and the creativity that flows from these magical Five Minutes!
So - here goes: Five Minute Friday - HOME...
{GO}
I find it odd that as this word prompt blinks on my screen, I am packing up suitcases and planning to leave for a few days. Our girlie is off as well, leaving yesterday for a DECA (business club) State competition on the other side of the mountains. My Honey will relish in a weekend all on his own! We are a close knit family, for sure! And yet - we love the going away and adventure and blessings of being gone!
I think part of what Home is should be something you (can) take with you wherever you go! I can have that sense of Home in an airport, at a beach (yes, please!), on my couch... or snuggled in my bed.
For me - Home speaks to that sense of belonging... of being taken care of, of being safe and secure and loved on.
Sure - there are times when we want home to be more tangible than that - and I pray that it is - that it CAN be for each of us.
But when it comes down to it - Home is in your heart... and where your heart is - well, I've read that that is where your treasure is also!
I strive not to have a home of perfection (ask anybody!) but a home of peace... to have you peek in at family photo's framed and hung, heirloom throws to help keep you warm, scents of candles burning that offer comfort... To offer a sense of heritage and history and Home, not just for me and us, but yes, for you too! My desire that is that wherever I am... what I bring to the table and share over coffee is a piece of Home for you... because really - we are all just here temporarily, we are all waiting to go Home.
{STOP}
I am beginning a new Bible study written by two great friends and it is based around that oh so familiar portion of Scripture, The Lord's Prayer. Home to me is offered in this prayer... "Your Kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven."
So, with that in mind, I leave you with two things:
The Lord's Prayer in The Message:
"Our Father in heaven,
Reveal who you are.
Set the world right;
Do what's best --
as above, so below.
Keep us alive with three square meals.
Keep us forgiven with you and forgiving others.
Keep us safe from ourselves and the Devil.
You're in charge!
You can do anything you want.
You're ablazing in beauty.
Yes. Yes. Yes."
...and how can you not think of this song when writing about home... I mean really? Enjoy!
Speak Life, Be Love, Shine On!

I love that!
I will be praying for your weekend. Maybe you could message me on fb with more specifics. :-)

Oh how I long to sit across the table from you over a cup friend. So love your heart. Blessings and much love.
ReplyDeleteWow - people who think home isn't exciting should read this little peek into home life. All kinds of activities!
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Lisa-Jo, and glad I did :)
Love your picture of Home being where your heart is and how you create a home where peace is...simply lovely...praying you have a great time at your retreat, Karrilee :)
ReplyDeleteI want to come on over . . .right now. :) What a beautiful place this heart of yours is, the Father's love pouring out . . and then your creating this tangible expression of it through wanting everyone to feel cozy and known and loved and warm when they enter your house. I feel it here, in your words, friend. Thank you. I pray you have the most beautiful, fun, restorative weekend!
ReplyDeleteConfession: I had never heard that whole song before, only the part that used on a commercial. I love that idea of making a home of peace, not perfection. That was one of Sally Clarkson's comments from Desperate that really stuck with me. I also like the idea that it's portable because at least part of home is in our heart. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHi Karrilee
ReplyDeleteIt is the only place we can find home: in the treasures of your heart. And you are so right when you say that we can take that home with us anywhere we go. Over via FMF.
Much love
Mia
