So - even after a serious burn and with suitcases empty, still needing to be filled - I managed to type away one handed and (mostly) keep up with the party that is #FMFParty on Twitter! I treated my hand and logged off early so I could rest and come back here this morning - get the prompt and see if I can use TWO hands to write out this post! I have to say... I literally poured boiling water into the palm of my hand (not on purpose, mind you!) - immediately I had blisters forming and my hand was bright red... the pain was crazy high in the scale of 1-10... however, this morning I woke up and other than the skin being just a little tingly... I have no scarring, no burns, no blisters... not even a hint that anything traumatic happened to it last night! Praise God... on this day - THIS day in particular... I see how He willingly traded His hand in place of mine!
Back to FMF...
First - the fine print if you don't know what FMF is! Five Minute Fridays are hosted by Lisa Jo Baker. It is open to anyone, so to learn more about it - and to jump in yourself (the more the merrier!) or just to find a linky to see what everyone is writing about today - click HERE! The idea is to simply write... for Five Minutes flat... no editing, no deep thinking - or at least REthinking, no spell check - just write! Let it flow! We all write using a prompt that Lisa posts at one minute past midnight Friday morning (EST.) I'm loving the community of amazing bloggers and the creativity that flows from these magical Five Minutes!
So - here goes: Five Minute Friday - BROKEN...
{GO}
Broken... and on Good Friday, no less...
How can my mind keep from racing; my heart from frantically running for cover - the precious cover of the Blood being poured out at the foot of the Cross. To clamor and squeeze in close, finding my place under the flow...
I know, right?
We are not comfortable with the imagery... we, in our Western Culture and proper (yet oh so improper) ways... we want to 'clean up' Good Friday - just a little... make it a bit more marketable. We only like the blood and violence in our movies and when they are feeding fear... but not so much when the Blood is His... when He freely gives it... when He is sweetly broken... for you, and for me. No, His Blood redeems and covers... it feeds Freedom not Fear... it produces fulfilled Promises not enduring Pain... But we'd rather clean it up - make it less messy... less torturous... less - well... just less. But let's not do that! Not today... not any day!
I think we try to do this because God willingly being BROKEN and spilled out... how can we even really fathom it? God... who could have chosen any other way - chose this way... chose this Cross... He chose to do it in exchange for this heart - and for yours too!
We love the verse that says that 'but for the joy set before Him, He endured the Cross' but let's not forget His cry, "why oh why have You forsaken me?" Those are two very different emotions... and yet both are bathed in redeeming Blood. Our Jesus - was fully man... feeling all our emotions and pain... the weight of our sin and shame... our brokenness became HIS brokenness.
The Good News is Good Friday is not the end of the story... He was Broken... yes.. because we were Broken. Thank God He didn't leave us that way!
Oh no...
Thanks to Jesus... and the Cross... we are made New.
Thanks to Good Friday... and promises fulfilled...
Easter is coming!
Thanks to God the Father and Grace like rain...
...thanks to a Love that never Fails...
"...it is won. It is done."

Thank you for this beautiful reflection on Good Friday. May you have a blessed Easter (and I'm glad your hand feels better).
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful words to focus us back to the cross and then the empty tomb today. Thank you for sharing. So glad you and is better.
ReplyDeleteThank you for helping us remember the gruesomeness and pain He suffered for us!
ReplyDeleteSo thankful!
Hope your hand heals quickly!
Without the stripes, we aren't healed. Without the blood, we aren't cleansed. Punishment is an ugly, messy business. When it is the punishment for all sins - it has to be brutal. To look away is to deny what we deserved and miss the magnitude of the grace we've been given. Strong truth in your words today.
ReplyDeleteThank you! For the real, the honest, the true!! I LOVE the reminder that the good news is that Good Friday is not the end of the story!!
