This is Five Minute Friday (- a five minute timed free write) and our One Word Prompt for the day is: MISS
{GO}
I reread an old post this morning. You know, it was one of those facebook memories and it was a year ago... a little wrap up of my time spent in Nebraska at Jumping Tandem.
It made me miss the peace and the stillness before we jumped right in to the crazy!
It made me miss the quiet before the storm and it reminded me to stay present --even as the winds come straight at me and the waves swirl all around.
I know this... this slowing to breathe... this Sabbath
Rest that is necessary and wise.
I know this. It's just I don't always do it!
And yet - when I miss the least amount of details and accomplish the most amount of Kingdom good, it is when I'm remaining present, holding both my heart and hands wide open to the possibilities of the day.
It's when I am childlike.
And when we can be like that... well, we miss the hard parts of adulting and we find wonder and blessings all around us... we find the things we don't want to miss!
My calendar was overbooked this week and yet I penciled in moments here and there set aside simply for being fully present. Sometimes that meant being fully present in a conversation across a table, or being fully present to focus and get a task done... sometimes it meant simply leaving a stack of things undone to go sit on the patio for 5 minutes of silence.
Staying Present is like magic... full of wonder and grace. It shifts your perspective and brings details in to focus and it makes life easier to stay prioritized in the correct order.
It's when our days get bossy and busy and our communication is rushed as we are just passing by that we begin to miss things.
We miss the actual reason we are still here on this earth, breathing in air and living out our days.

I can feel a bit ragged and worn out.
But when I slow even just a little and truly breathe in deep and actually look around the room... gaze across the horizon, and ask Him for His perspective... well,
He's always happy to give us a little glimpse...
{STOP}
I think He loves it when we ask this... because it is His hearts' desire to give us a glimpse into His Glory and to draw us closer to His heart, so that...
SO. THAT. we will fill up and pour out, over and over and over again!

Stopping by from FMF. Beautiful photos! Thank you for the reminder to slow down and be fully present. Something we all need to do! Bless you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by, Leigh! Yes to being fully present being something we all need to do... and thanks --I've been playing with my macro lens for my iphone a bit in the garden this week as part of my slowing, being present, and looking for lovely!
DeleteBeautiful, Karrilee! I wrote a little about being present, too. :) We miss so much when we rush through things. I have to keep reminding myself to slow down, be fully present and enjoy the simple things.
ReplyDeleteI believe the enemy is pretty happy with himself when he can get us to rush through our days! Blessings on slowing a bit this weekend, my friend!
DeleteI missed the party last night too. So much THIS: "Staying Present is like magic... full of wonder and grace. It shifts your perspective and brings details in to focus and it makes life easier to stay prioritized in the correct order." I don't want to miss out either friend. I'm four behind you in the 68 spot this week.
ReplyDeleteYeah well - a chance to see Garth in person trumps even the fmfparty crew! ;)
DeleteBeautiful, Karrilee! Love the photos. Love your tattoo on your foot...can I ask what it says?
ReplyDeleteXO
Tammy
Thanks Tammy! I have been playing with my macro lens for my phone and oh my - the flowers above are tiny in real life... and some of the colors you can't even see to the naked eye! Gifts in slowing and paying attention! (My tattoo... my girlie and I got matching ones and they say "Beloved" with an open heart!)
DeleteI needed your words today, Karrillee! I'm doing my darndest to stay present, and I'm not doing a very good job. In His strength, right? Beautiful photos, my friend. Always love stopping over to your place. Have a blessed weekend and Mother's Day!
ReplyDeleteRight? Sometimes it really is a LOT of work to stay present... but it's always worth it! Happy Mother's Day to you too, my friend!
DeleteI find myself consumed with getting from one thing to the next and rarely am "Present" . Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteOh, friend... you and me both! I think we ALL need reminders to slow and to be present! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteBeautiful, karrilee, and I love the pictures.
ReplyDeleteStaying present...even in the horrible places, it's still worthwhile, because the truest compassion can come from the depths of despair.

What an honor to see you here, brother! I know replying and reading and leaving comments is work and takes great effort and I am honored that you would read and comment here, my friend! Yes - even in the darkness... in the hard times... staying present is worth it! Praying for you, Andrew!
DeleteKarrilee,
ReplyDeleteoh I miss the ability to visit posts at leisure! Working this year, I'm scrambling to keep my comment replies in a prompt manner, but I never thought it would be the following Thursday before I could comment on last week's writing.
I too have been savoring those Jumping Tandem memories. God really began teaching me Grace last year. (my oneword365 was joy)
So blessed to be in fellowship with you!
Love,
Tammy
Hey friend... as they say, better late than never, right? So glad you stopped by and yes and amen to savoring those JT memories! So glad we got to meet in person... funny it took Nebraska to get us West Coasters to meet up! ;)
