When Everything Feels Hard and All the News Seems Heavy... A Five Minute Friday post

I made it!  I finally made it for most of a Thursday night Five Minute Friday Twitter party (aka #fmfparty).  It's been awhile and it's truly one of my favorite gatherings online! In a world seemingly spinning out of control, we chat about some of that stuff but we also hit on bloggy things (Hint - check out Fistpump Media... Dan King will hook you up!) books, movies, chocolate and other food groups, coffee shops, sports, kids, marriage, prayer requests, vacations, ...you name it, we will touch on it - all while waiting to get the One Word Prompt!  It was so good to be back!

This is Five Minute Friday (- a five minute timed free write) and our One Word Prompt for the day is: NEWS

{GO}

News... that is our prompt and at the risk of seeming head-in-the-sand-ish... I literally can't even.

I know it's an election year and I'm a grown up and I need to care.  I know that it matters... I mean, it matters a LOT! I know I need to jump on board somewhere, and vote for someone... and yet - it's still only March and honestly, I just don't have the bandwidth for it all quite yet!

So instead of the news... or the drama... or 'entertainment' of debates and campaigns... instead of the hard realities of growing and loving and nurturing, you know, humans...

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program with this:

PUPPY NEWS!

Our girlie was never one to wish for a dog growing up. We are cat people. (I know.  But we are.)

But a couple of years ago, she fell in love with Corgi's.  I mean - right? They are adorable!

So while many of her friends are having babies, she bought a puppy!

(Insert Praise hands here.)

Through the whole process, we have bit our tongues and tried not to give advice.  After all = Cat people.

We have never owned a dog but we are well aware that having a brand new puppy is hard work and requires sacrifice and commitment... but she is well able and ready. And also (see above praise hands insert!) - he's a puppy!  We just kept thinking of the cost and the apartment and the neighbors... of all the potty training and early wake-up calls and late night accidents... the teething and chewing and, you know, all that dog shaming to come!

She is educating herself and is learning as she goes. As one does, I suppose. But the breeder began sending her photo's and updates right away, so we have been in love with little Mr. Bentley for months before his arrival here!

Then he arrived... and my phone blows up like this:

So in the midst of a hard week and lots of political news, health news, relational issues, tight budgets, hurt feelings, and the multitudes threatening (again) to move to Canada... well, we quickly learned that when everything feels hard and all the news seems heavy, puppy kisses help!

{STOP}

I know I could have gone in so many directions with this prompt, but, honestly: new puppy love, y'all!

He's so precious!

And there is this... I can promise you that this is true:

God help us, indeed!

Linking up with Kate Motaung and the #fmfparty Community today.  Five Minute Fridays gives us the chance to dive right in and share what He puts on our hearts! Click HERE to read what others have to say about: "NEWS"

The FMF lowdown: The gathering happens on Twitter on Thursday nights & then we write our hearts out & hit publish all over the interwebs on Thursday & Friday (& sometimes on Tuesdays!) It's where we encourage & uplift... where we share prayer requests & praise reports... where we talk food & friends & we find support & kindred hearts. It's where we are reminded that life is good & God is good & we're not alone... & then we all write for five minutes flat, a flash mob of wordsmiths letting our hearts & our fingers do the talking tapping & we hit publish before we can second guess it all away. We'd love to have you join us!

  1. I love that you wrote about Mr. Bentley. And it probably comes as no surprise to you, that I'm a cat person too. But cute puppies do help. I don't have the bandwidth for this election yet either. (Oh how do I love that you used that word) And so much THIS: "So in the midst of a hard week and lots of political news, health news, relational issues, tight budgets, hurt feelings, and the multitudes threatening (again) to move to Canada... well, we quickly learned that when everything feels hard and all the news seems heavy, puppy kisses help!" So do baby snuggle....which I got a few of today!

    what a wonderful, FUN post! Mr. Bentley cuteness. Cats are so much easier than dogs, I love both, but hubby's allergic to cats, so...2 pups live at our house.

    1. My hubby is allergic to cats too... but we have just the one and he has adapted but I think when our Jonah Boy passes on, he will remember what it is like to breath fully and without allergies again! (Obviously, it's a MILD allergy!) Cats are so much more independent... but we are quickly learning to love both!

  4. This is such a fun post, Karrilee. And how could you not spread the news of Mr. Bentley??? He is adorable. Besides, I myself would much rather read this new than any other "news" circulating at this time. And you're right - you won't be able to contain yourself when little humans come. But then that is even better news :))) Blessings on you all!

  5. Great Post! Mr. Bently came at just the right time to bless all of you. And about politics ... no matter which side or choice or whatever...with all the mess in it this year I am waiting to decide definitely...I mean November is a long way off ...and...some folks need a long time to hang themselves...oops or actually disappear from the race in disgrace.

  6. Aw, you're a grandparent now! With a sweet grand puppy! I'm with you on the whole praise hands thing ;). Leerburg kennels (I think their website is leerburg.com) has some great training material--get this, they specialize in Schutzhund dogs (like German Shepherds) and Corgis :). It's fun to watch Corgis do things--they're so enthusiastic!

    1. Oooh - thanks for the tip! I passed it on to Bentleys' mama! ;) Corgis are nothing if not enthusiastic! LOL!

  8. Ok, this literally made me crack up and I think I fell in love with him just reading this!! See? Puppies are fun. Puppies are friendly. Puppies have personality. Cats have what... fur? HA!! Anyway, I'm feeling like you should have called this post "Mr. Bentley and the family formerly known as the Cat People". Because once you have welcomed a dog into your family... there is no going back!

    1. LOL! Well, let's be clear - Mr. Bentley lives with our girlie... and while we originally got Jonah Boy (the cat) when she was four -she moved out without him! So the cat lives with us... the puppy, with her! We'll see if they can manage to get along when Bentley visits! But yes... he has already won our hearts!

    2. Oh, Karrilee, you MUST share a post when Jonah Boy and Mr. Bentley get together... sounds like it might make for good "reality television"!

    3. LOL! Well Mr. Bentley has come over twice now... gotten swiped at once, and ignored the rest of the time so far! JonahBoy is not impressed... but (so far, anyway) he is bigger and he is alpha! If I could add a photo to this comment, I would add the picture my girlie snapped of Jonah sitting on her lap - smelling dog, and looking --as she put it, 'salty' about her having a puppy! LOL! One day hopefully they will be friends!
