When Fog Looks Like Glory and It Helps You Remember...

For me, the fog always reminds me...

I wrote about it a bit the other day --how we've been shrouded in fog lately... how it unfolds in layers and is constantly moving around and shifting, but it is not lifting. It's not completely burning off.

For us, well-- this is not normal.  We are a Sunshine-for-290-days-a-year kind of town, and too many days without blue skies can play tricks on your mind and press heavy on your heart if you let it.

It can make you feel alone... hidden... unseen.

But for me... the fog looks like Glory and it helps me to remember that I am never truly alone.

Just as the fog shifts and moves all around me, His glory is right here, right now - but I usually don't get to see it.

So when I am closed in with fog, and there are no blue skies in sight... I cry out with Kim Walker Smith, "Show me Your glory! I long to look on the face of the one that I love. I want to stay in Your presence, it's where I belong!"

Yes. That.

Because when we can't see our path and we're not sure where we are going... it's so easy to forget where we belong.  It can feel like we're in this thing all alone... that whatever battle we are facing is ours alone to face but let me assure you - whether you see Him or feel Him or not...
Oh my friend, He is there!

He is there, and you belong in His presence!

We can all see His Light filtering through a fog from far off and point to His Glory. We see it cutting through the clouds and reaching down and breaking through and from our clear skies vantage - oh yes, we can see it!

But it's when we are in the thick of it... when we can't see the sun, but we know it's there - that HE is there - just beyond the covering of clouds... this is when we get to choose.

We can choose to give in to the lies and come into agreement that the heavens are closed all around us... or we can come into agreement that the heavens were ripped open 2000 years ago and have never ever again been closed up from us.

We have Access... clouds or no clouds... storm or no storm...

His Glory streams all around us, and this fog?  This storm? This Battle - whatever it is... it can help us remember!

So while I am longing for some sunshine and blue skies, I am slowing to Wonder... to take in the fog and the Glory that is all around me!  I am asking Him to open the eyes of my heart to see it...

For in opening the eyes of our hearts, we remember.... we remember that He is in us and all around us and His Glory is a gift to help us remember!

Yesterday, I saw it in the fog... yes. But I also saw it in the eyes of a homeless man, cold and needing help.  I saw it in my neighbor, in my husband, I even caught glimpse of it in the mirror!

His Glory is all around... where are you finding it?

Can I encourage you to press play and enter in... to step into the cloud, and ask Him to show you His glory that is all around you today? It is time well spent, and I am believing with you that He will show you!

  1. Karrilee, I thought the Pacific Northwest was always shrouded in fog? It is interesting that you write about "fog" and Kaitlyn B wrote "In the Midst of the Mist" today... When Father impresses two of His kids to write on something, the readers need to tune in! xo

    1. LOL - Yeah, well - Seattle gives the whole state a bad name - but even in Seattle, it's more rain than fog... and there is often blue skies while it is raining! ;) Yes, I read Kaitlyns' post too! Gotta love it when He is speaking through friends! Thanks so much for stopping by!

  4. I love this line "Because when we can't see our path and we're not sure where we are going... it's so easy to forget where we belong" The great thing is remembering that He is with us even through the fog and haze and in the unforeseen path.... He is still there! Thank you for these encouraging words!

    1. Amen! It's so easy to forget, isn't it? I'm so thankful for kindred spirits who come alongside and remind me of the truth... of where I belong... and that I am not alone! Thanks so much for stopping by today, Rachel! You are welcome any time!

I love the analogy of the fog - I will not fear even though the fog seems to be overwhelming me!

  6. I so needed to read this today. The weather here was crummy and I also live in a place of sunshine most days of the year. So to be complaining it was cloudy is kind of ridiculous, but it seriously put a huge damper on my mood. Thanks for this gut check. I guess I need to go give my hubby a hug and tell him I'm sorry for being such a grump.

    1. It really does make a difference, right? I mean - I know we are spoiled with all the sun - but still... we LIKE it that way, right? ;)

  7. I love the analogies that you have made here. I actually love foggy mornings. I played this beautiful song you have shared with us and I come into agreement with you that we could all step into the cloud and his glory would be revealed to us on this day. Amen.

    1. Amen, Natalie! I normally adore the fog... it's so mysterious and romantic... but after days and days and DAYS of it... my heart longs for a bit of a clearing! Thankful for the prayer of agreement! May we see His glory all around us! Thanks so much for stopping by!

  8. I'm so in love with this post. I love this analogy of how you used the fog in your real life to talk about fog in our Spiritual life. And this: "is constantly moving around and shifting, but it is not lifting..." Shifting but not lifting. It's so easy to think we can't see Him for the fog. Can't see Him for that storm that rages in around us. But He's ALWAYS there and we have access to Him whenever we want. Love, love, love!
