A poem as an offering this morning, because we are counting gifts and looking for small wonders...
I sit outside dressed in light layers,
watching as fervent prayers rally
...they beckon dark clouds to fill the sky
and roll in to cover this Valley.
The breeze is cooler
and carries a hint of Fall
as it gently blows
and ushers in a new season.
A frog... --a frog?--
is singing out his praise
and all the birds are sleeping
and are silent for some reason.
Or maybe they are just Listening,
--leaning in and waiting for an out pour...
Longing for the nourishment it will bring
and wanting a fresh start that is hard to ignore.
So I bow my head,
and say, "Yes and Amen!"
I join with them in dry and thirsty anticipation
My heart and this land,
we are both in need of a refreshing...
of some sort of new inauguration.
Do not just pass us by, offering hope,
with a teasing hint of Your drenching.
But pour out Your Spirit
and remind me that, of this love,
there is no quenching.
I've lived my life --all of my days,
here in this Valley
--mostly feeling like I'm high up on the edge,
Mountain Top Love and Views of Your Glory.
But it's at the bottom...
it is in the center of this land
that You wake me with "Deluge!"
and promise You're not done writing this Story.
...And so I cry out,

This is lovely, Karrilee and I like to imagine how much fun you had writing and praying it. May your week be blessed.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Kelly! It's so often the cry of my heart! xoxo
DeleteLovely poem, my friend! Yes, LET IT RAIN! :) So much THIS: "So I bow my head, and say, "Yes and Amen!" I join with them in dry and thirsty anticipation; My heart and this land, we are both in need of a refreshing...of some sort of new inauguration." And also THIS: "Do not just pass us by, offering hope,
ReplyDeletewith a teasing hint of Your drenching. But pour out Your Spirit and remind me that, of this love, there is no quenching." Love that Jesus Culture song...so pretty!
Ha... you picked out my two favorite parts too! And yes --that song, right?
DeleteLet it rain indeed! Amen! Such a beautiful prayer, thank you. Blessings upon blessings to you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by, and for crying out for rain with me, Mari-Anna! Blessings right back to you, friend!
DeleteIt's like you get me! ;) xoxo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I can picture this scene, and have felt it in my own heart as well.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Michele! For stopping by... and for letting me know that I am not alone! xoxo
DeleteHoly Spirit is speaking "rain" - I hear Him and words have been forming in my heart: rain/reign. THIS IS confirmation. Well, of course it is!!! xo
ReplyDeleteWell how much do we just love THAT!? Confirtmation is such a gift... (and yes, of course!) xoxo
DeleteThis is so great. I love how He speaks to us through nature and I LOVE your writing voice!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Natalie! I have found that if I can't hear Him in nature then I haven't allowed myself enough time to slow down and unwind and lean in and listen... because He is always speaking... (and if not Him... then the rocks!) ;)
