How Vision brought Clarity (-ish) this year, and my OneWord365 for 2015

For the last several years, I have joined in with the growing Movement of picking one little word... or actually, of allowing one little word come and pick me! It's not that I don't still entertain the idea of a few New Years' Resolutions... (You know the ones: eating healthier, working out, career success, being better...) Yes, I am all for that. The thing is, I want to make changes - to allow changes to come all year long and not just fade away by mid-January -February! What I love about OneWord365 is how by simply inviting one word into your life... it opens you up to find it all year long.

As the OneWord365 website says, "Forget New Year's Resolutions.  Scrap that long list of goals you won't remember three weeks from now anyway.  Choose just one word.  One word that sums up who you want to be or how you want to live.  One word that you can focus on every day, all year long."

My OneWord365 for 2014 was "Vision" and in some ways it brought with it more clarity... a clearer vision of who I am and how I am gifted and what I'm we are called to do with it all.  In other ways, our Vision was tested, both physically and spiritually. I wrote a bit about it here and here.

In looking back over 2014, I see how Vision showed up for me personally in giving me Hope for a future that is still yet unknown, as well as Grace for the times when it feels like my vision is lacking.

In the beginning of the year, I had clarity of a Call that has long been hidden in our hearts... I saw doors open and opportunities arise and I found myself ministering side by side with my Honey and it felt like, "Finally!" when we didn't even know we had been waiting! Yes - in the beginning, Vision was a gift and a glimpse into what may just be our Next Season.

Then came a long, hard, quiet Summer. I referred to it as my Summer of Silence and while some parts of that were nice, --restful, even! --other parts were lonely and foggy and it felt like a bit of mocking knowing that my OneWord was Vision!

Still - I leaned in... trust and faith were going down deeper and we found our foundation secure.

Even if/when we lose Vision... He shows us the way, step by step and even when those steps are oh so small and go oh so slow... when we walk with Him, we walk towards the Light and the Love, and the plans and purposes that He has laid out for us come into view!

We will not miss our Big Picture Destiny when we are walking with Him, abiding in Him, in our every days!

So, Vision came to me... physically, spiritually, emotionally... sometimes it was Bold and Beautiful, and other times it was anything but showy-offy and I had to go search it out... or wait for it to come into view once again.

So... we've gone from Release, to Surprise, to Vision, to my OneWord for 2015 which is: "Wonder!"
(I know, right? Don't be jealous! It's a GREAT word!)

I love to look up the definition of my OneWord because I always think I know what it means, but I am usually pleasantly surprised and even more ready to embrace it after spending some time with Webster...

Here are a few of the definitions that stood out to me:
a cause of astonishment or admiration :  marvel
miracle
to feel surprise or amazement
effective or efficient far beyond anything previously known or anticipated

I would be amiss if I wasn't honest and also included the definition that is not so fun... not so romantic... the one that I am not so ready to embrace...
to feel curiosity or doubt

Then again - if we are honest here --which, hello? That is my deal... so, since we are honest here, who among us doesn't have those moments hours days of doubt... or, let's call it curiosity!

Still... I am leaning in to Wonder this year and expecting it to show up in all the best ways!

May we never lose our sense of Wonder...

I pray 2015 is full of Wonder for us all!

Happy New Year!

  1. About four weeks ago I was feeling rather puny and the word "wonder" found me. I asked the Lord, "Is THIS 'the word'?" And, lo and behold, it is...I want to live in wonder and not miss the miracle of wonder in the ordinary. So, yes, it is a GREAT word!

    1. I love it! I've been sitting on it for almost 2 months... I tend to push the word away at first, afraid I was the one who did the choosing - but He is just so good to confirm it in so many ways! Love that we are sharing the same word! 2015 promises to be filled with Wonder, my friend!

  4. When I hear the word vision, I always think of Ginny Owen's version of "Be Thou My Vision" (if you aren't acquainted with her music, she's amazing)--and the song is even more poignant because she is blind. We need to be blind (usually to self) in order to have true vision. Hugs to you for the new year and as you explore and ponder your new word!

    1. Anita, I love Ginny Owen and while I know I have heard her rendition, I am off now to listen to it again! The irony was not lost on me earlier this year when I literally could not see... I was forced to step away from all screens and rest my eyes and yes, true vision brought clarity! Blessings, my friend!

  5. Hi Karrilee. (Visiting from #TestimonyTuesday, it's been a long time since I've seen your blog, so happy I stopped by here today!) I love your word, Wonder! May the Lord give you an increased sense of WONDER at his presence and love for you. My word is: REST (as in Isaiah 30:15: In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength.) Rest through repentance, quietness, and trust.

  7. I can honestly say I hadn't heard about OneWord365 until you posted it here. But it suddenly makes scene why I was seeing all these "My one word for the year" slogans and articles everywhere! Your words are a bit more unique than what I've seen.
If I had to look back on 2014, my word totally was Vision as well. Looking forward maybe my word is Preparing? For what? I don't know. But if I pray on it, I'm sure to receive some sort of answer.
Wonder is a great one as well--many blessings on your journey!

    1. I know, right? It started showing up a few months ago but I didn't want to assume... it felt like such a score! So I waited and listened and prayed and it just kept showing up louder and louder and as soon as I claimed it... well, a sense of Wonder was released! Like an early New Years gift! May we all receive from Him all that He has for us... and may we never lose our sense of Wonder! xoxo
