It's true! I love a flash mob! I mean as in, stop everything and watch it unfold while I am somehow undone.
Every. Single. Time.
It could be a breakout into song and/or dance, a marriage proposal, or a joke or ...anything.
Webster's defines Flash Mob like this:
This is the first Flash Mob I rememberFLASH MOB: a group of people summoned (as by e-mail or text message) to a designated location at a specified time to perform an indicated action before dispersing
There is something about a Flash Mob that just right undoes me.
I know this about me... but it was only recently that I stopped to wonder why? Why does this undo me? Why does it make me want to be in a Flash mob or be in a Mall or a park or anywhere when a Flash mob breaks out? Why does this so stir me up and cause real tears to spill out and real emotion to quiver my chin?
I stopped to ask a few others and many said that they have the same reaction. So I stopped and asked God... what is it about a Flash mob that so speaks to me way down deep?
He whispered,
"It's all about the Wonder!"
It's the element of surprise, the sheer joy of it... it's the romance and the work and all the things that must happen behind the scenes... it's the way it spreads smiles and laughter, amazement and I-can't-believe-this-is-happening wonder...
It's the Community... the working together to pull it all off and the sense of coming alongside, learning, practicing and uplifting, sacrificing, and keeping it all a secret in order to make it a success. It's the fact that anyone can play - it's the knowing that to pull it off, we need all shapes and sizes and gifts and talents giving their best and oh my how it all comes together and looks like so much fun... so much Happy! (and who couldn't use more happy, anyway?)
And then, when it's over... it's the way they all simply walk away and blend back in to the crowds and disappear. No one is in it looking for glory... looking for anything really - they are all in it to give!
It's because it is a GIFT... sometimes intended for one person specifically - but everyone around gets a piece of it!
Miracles happen all around us... Wonder is peeking around corners and trying to catch your eye! In this Season, of course - but in all seasons!
God's Spirit is wooing you and me, and what we wouldn't give for a little song and dance interaction, am I right? Holy Spirit wants to interrupt our daily lives and encounter us... surprise us... bring us Joy... and stir up our Wonder!
Oh, and this post would be lacking if it didn't include this video... because - Gah! Try not to fall in love with it!
I challenge you to just go to YouTube and type in Flash Mob... watch a few and see what begins to stir within you!
I am betting that you will feel a bit of joy bubbling up and a sense of wonder... a little God-style shock and awe!
Why? Because it's a picture of God... how He comes for you... He sings over you... He desires to surprise you and take your breath away... He loves to romance and woo.
When He shows up in a Cradle, on a Cross, or right now at Christmas time, and you shake your head and are thinking, "I can't believe this is happening to me!" ...well, that is His favorite part! Jesus, Man of Joy and Lover of our souls!
May your Christmas be filled with Peace and Joy... and I pray it is wonderful and wonder-filled!

What about you? Have you ever planned or been in a Flash mob? Do you love them, too? If so - what's the best one you have ever seen/watched?
So very true my friend. Flash mobs are very fun! I loved this line you wrote: "It's the element of surprise, the sheer joy of it... it's the romance and the work and all the things that must happen behind the scenes... it's the way it spreads smiles and laughter, amazement and I-can't-believe-this-is-happening wonder..." I believe God shows up in these same ways too exactly as you shared. Thanks for that reminder!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, my friend! May He show up in all these ways for us all this Christmas, and all year long!
DeleteI love flash mobs for all the same reasons. I'd love to participate in one some day:) Have you seen the one of the Hallelujah Chorus at a mall. It brings me chills in a totally wonderful way.
ReplyDeleteI love that one, too! (I love them all!) Amen about the chills and the wonder! Love you friend! Merry Christmas!
DeleteKarrilee, wow, you expressed this all so beautifully, so perfectly. I love how you asked God what He thinks about it all and why we react to it the way we do. I love that, how He so gently translates to us our own emotions--emotions that He speaks to so deeply that it can otherwise be difficult to understand. Thank you so much I adore Flash Mobs, too! xo
ReplyDeleteAmen, friend - He is so good to tell us all things... He is not about keeping secrets from us... more like keeping them for us! (Something about the glory of kings to search a matter out!) Love you so and so glad that we are neighbors!
DeletePERFECT. When you asked the question, "What is it about a flash mob that makes me....?" I was trying to think of my answer because it does the identical thing to/for me - I cry, at times, sob, when watching, it is just so....well, what you say here. I love this post. xo
ReplyDeleteI so appreciate you, Susan... thanks so much for stopping by and sharing! I am glad to know that I am not alone!
DeleteYes I am with Ginger I would love to participate in one as well! Great job!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that be so much fun? I am not a dancer... or a singer, per say... but I think it would be so much fun! Thanks for stopping by!
DeleteThat is awesome! Personally, I wouldn't want someone to "flash mob me" as a proposal, but I'm sure there are those who do. I'm just not really one who would want to be not only surprised but also put on the spot like that.

Oh as much as I love them - I think it IS a lot of pressure on one person... I don't even like being sung Happy Birthday to in a crowded restaurant! Then again - it's all about the love and to know someone put that much time and effort into loving me... wow! There it is again... Wonder!
DeleteFor me you've captured the romance of Jesus in Christmas in this post. Love flash mobs, too. Your writing filled me with joy!
ReplyDeleteThank you for visiting me. Merry Christmas!
Aw - thanks so much for stopping by! Merry Christmas to you, too!
DeleteThank you! You've put a finger on why I cry at things like flash-mobs! Now I won't have to go to a counselor to figure it out ;). You rock! Um...can you explain why I cry over Folger's commercials?
ReplyDeleteFor the love of Coffee, of course! ;) (Happy to help!)
DeleteFun post, Karilee!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Elizabeth! Merry Christmas!
