31 Days of Going From Mama to Mimi - DAY SIXTEEN

This is Day Sixteen in our 31 Days series: Going from Mama to Mimi - Stories of Hope, Joy, & Transition...

Growing a Baby AND a Mom!

How many of you remember that nine months can seem to take FOREVER? (Especially that last month or two, right?)

It takes a long time to grow a baby...
and just as long to grow a Mama, too!

There is so much going on in the process and passing of nine months... so many changes and shifts and adjustments made --both physically, and emotionally!

No matter how the nine months began --a long awaited for announcement or a surprised shock of new news... no matter how ready or not ready we may think we are-- it takes every moment of growing Baby in the womb, to begin to grow Mama in the wonder.

Whether you are Type A and have color-coded plans, or you are more of a laid back, fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants type... the time it takes for God to form and fashion this new baby is also used to form and fashion the new Mama you are growing into!

So while physically, you may feel the actual shifting and making room in your body --there is also some shifting and making room in your heart to become a Mama!

It takes a lot of work!

Some of it you are well aware of... but lots of it is a deeper, quieter work... going down to the very core of who you are.

Taking on the role and title of Mama is no small thing.
It's not something we take lightly --nor should we.

But it's also not something we do all on our own.

In fact, the same Creator God who is breathing life and molding and shaping your precious little one is also at work in you... building and forming the ability to carry your heart on the outside of your body, when the time comes!

As a Mimi --what we can offer you is grace and the reminder that none of us really have a say in how time works.

We have experience in the waiting... and also in the realization that not one moment of that waiting is wasted!

In the midst of all the changes and the times we want it to just hurry up and get here (and the times we aren't sure we want it to get here at all because we're not sure we will ever feel ready!) we encourage you to be patient and to trust.

As you are being fruitful in the natural, God is growing in you a greater capacity to Love and to become a mother.

It is the best and hardest 'job' you will ever have. The pay is ridiculous and the sacrifice can and will kill you at times... but it is the greatest call and the most wonder-filled 'work' you will ever have the honor of taking on --the growing up of a whole tiny human!

As a Mimi --we are here to love you and remind you that you can do this... that you are not doing it alone... and that the God who created and formed you to be ours (and ultimately His!) is also growing you to not just bear children, but through them and with Him, to bear the fruits of the Spirit --which are oh so needed in the Becoming of a Mama!

"But the fruit of the Spirit [the result of His presence within us] is love [unselfish concern for others], joy, [inner] peace, patience [not the ability to wait, but how we act while waiting], kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such things there is no law." Galatians 5:22-23 Amplified

We get the joy of watching our babies grow into Mama's as they grow babies of their own! (--Whom are a gift and a blessing and what make us go from a Mama to a Mimi ourselves!)

Tomorrow we will be talking about Becoming Papa and Mimi! (Choosing a name and taking on the roles!)

  1. Love this! And sometimes the growing isn't done physically. But no matter, if it's through carrying in your body or adoption etc, there is always waiting.

  3. Whether we grow babies on the inside, or allow God to expand and grow our hearts to accept His gift of a child through a different means, it is most definitely a growing process. I love this series my friend!
