How to Get Out of Your Own Way and Truly See...

It's Monday.
  I {heart} Mondays.

I know that is not the norm. But for me, Mondays come after a full week and weekend of pouring out and loving on people, of being in community with my tribe --in real life and online, and spending time with friends and family, and doing everyday life things like errands, cooking and cleaning (and sometimes writing) and grocery shopping, etc.

For some this sounds like an amazing, charmed life. (It is.  I am well aware, that it is.
However, as an Introvert who loves people, it costs me something.

Some weeks, it costs me a lot.

So Mondays are set aside to simply sit, to embrace my speed of slow and silence, to reconnect with God, one on one, and to give myself room to breathe.

As sun spilled through the living room window this afternoon, I thought I'd lay in the sunny spot on the floor. (You know... like a cat!)

A little worship music playing in the background, a nap was flirting with me, but I knew in the midst of my Introverting Day, He was calling me to Dwell with Him. Not just to dwell alone and unplug... but to press in and be recharged in His Presence!

As I grab my journal and lay my body down low, the colorful splashes of light reflecting off a mosaic glass candle holder pulls for my attention, and I laugh.

Because, of course!

It was the sun Son that drew me, but He was already there waiting! The colorful refractions reminded me that the spiritual realm is right here in front of us, it's just that sometimes we forget!

As I laid down, for a moment my flesh got in the way and my view of the Light/Him was blocked. (As is the case so often, right?)  I settled in and the light came back in to view and I felt the warmth both inside and outside!

The music plays on...
"Holy there is no one like You.
There is none beside You.
Open up my eyes in wonder
Show me who You are and
Fill me with Your heart and
Lead me in love to those around me."

I had been 'dwelling' and introverting all day, but it's when I am laid low, spread thin, and eyes opened up to wonder, that I feel myself finally exhale and let go.

My heart cry becomes,
"Lord, let me see how You surround me...
Open my eyes to catch the light and reflect it (Him) well.
Let color fill my vision. Greens, Blues, and Pink...
Train my eyes to see Your Spirit.
Call me to my knees and get my flesh out of the way,
if I am the one blocking my view of You!
Change my perspective, when needed.
Light the candle and fan the flame."

And I rise up, refilled and refueled,
burning brighter, not the same.

Sometimes the best way to get out of your own way and truly see is to bend low... to watch and see... and cry out audacious prayers, asking Him to open your eyes to wonder and to help you to love those around you.

Oh how He longs to answer those prayers!

I invite you to join me today...
Let this be your cry:

  5. Your description of the light reflecting off the mosaic and what happened when you laid down was the perfect word picture of how we get in our own way and what we need to do to move into God's way.

    Great insights! Thanks for sharing!

  8. I get you, Sister! It's been a long three weeks for me with no time for extended 'introverting' :). I'm so glad God meets us through our needs and in his time (even when we don't expect it).
