What I love about OneWord365 is how by simply inviting one simple word into your life... it opens you up to find it all year long.
As the OneWord365 website says, "Forget New Year's Resolutions. Scrap that long list of goals you won't remember three weeks from now anyway. Choose just one word. One word that sums up who you want to be or how you want to live. One word that you can focus on every day, all year long."
I wrote a bit about Change here and here and here --but really, a lot of the Change that I encountered was deep and quiet... and it hasn't really fully surfaced yet.
In reflecting over 2016, I realized that Change was super bossy this year. I think he sensed my initial hesitation, even though he'd been courting me for years.
Some gifts he brought were kind and obvious and full of grace... others were rejected at first glance because, well --just no thanks, man. And yet... Change --when brought under the submission of our good, good Father, always brings about His best for us. (It's just that sometimes I forget!)
I titled this post "I am so done with Change" -but we all know that is not true... that is never true! Change happens... whether we embrace it or not. If we are alive... if we are growing... change is happening!
So while I am not 'done' with Change, I'm ready to move on and look for and expect... to make room for and be intentional in pursuing something new. I've gone from Release, to Surprise, to Vision, to Wonder, to Change, to my OneWord for 2017 which I LOVE! (Thank You, Jesus!)
My OneWord365 for 2017 is: "Dwell"
I know, right? It's just so SWOON-worthy!
I love words and picking just one is always a bit of challenge but I love how when I start to lean in to whatever my OneWord may be for the coming year, --well, He always let's me know that my Word is coming for me!
After Change... and honestly, after this year as a whole and all the heaviness and hard that it offered, my exhausted soul is in need of the reminder to DWELL!
Again... looking up the definition of my OneWord always helps because often I just think I know what it means. When in reality, there is usually so much more to it than I first can see.
Here are a few of the definitions that stood out to me for Dwell:
: to remain for a time, to reside
: to live as a resident
: to exist, to lie or to be or to stay at rest
: to keep the attention directed upon
: to linger over, emphasize, or ponder in thought
: to speak or write insistently
I mean... come on!
That's a Good Word, right there!
As has become my habit, I also asked God for a Scripture. Because, you know, confirmation!
So I prayed... knowing several verses that talk of dwelling but literally closing the Word and letting it fall open. It is no surprise that it opened here:
"One thing I have asked from the Lord, that I shall seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord
And to meditate in His temple." Psalm 27:4 NASB
This verse, y'all! I will expand on how this confirmation makes more sense when I write my post next week, sharing the Prophetic Word I believe the Lord has given me for 2017.
As is now my custom, I pray early on New Years Day and usually post in the afternoon, sharing what I feel the Lord is saying for the year to come for us all!
Until then, let us Dwell... let us Behold... let us Meditate!
Let us turn our attention and shift our affection toward the Lord and let us remember that no matter WHAT this New Year holds... He is holding it all in His nail scarred hands.
He's got us. This world is spinning, but it only feels like it may be spinning out of control!
Take Heart, dear friends...
"Wait for the Lord; Be strong and let your heart take courage; Yes, wait for the Lord." Psalm 27:14 NASB
Happy New Year, sweet readers!

Ahhh! I love your word. It's perfect and so swoon worthy. I wanted a swoon worthy word, but the Lord has other plans. May this be a great year as we both walk into the fullness of all He has for us! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteYour word will yeild Swoon-worthy results!!! Of that, I am certain! xoxo
DeleteHi friend! Love your word and love the verse you chose to go with it. Dwell... how lovely. Looking forward to seeing how God uses this word in your life in 2017. Much love, friend!
ReplyDeleteYou and me, both! Happy New Year, friend! xoxo
DeleteKarrilee, I was reading your post and I got to the part where you say you always pray for a scripture to go along with your word. I was thinking to myself about a scripture for mine, and when I scrolled further down in your post, there was the verse I was thinking of!!! I wasn't sure of the reference, but you had it right there for me. How cool is that!!!! My word found me and it jumps out at me everywhere. "Wait" is my word for 2017.
ReplyDeleteGayl, I love that so much! (And what a great Word... not always easy --but the reality is none of them are... and the fruit that comes from Waiting... oh my! So worth it! Happy New Year, my friend!
DeleteChange is hard. I've been reflecting on how "embrace" my one word from last year was hard too. There were so many things I didn't particularly want to embrace this year. I love your new word. I'm still waiting on confirmation for mine yet. Hoping God reveals it to me soon!
ReplyDeleteI saw your post, friend, and I feel ya! Oh my... Embrace and Change both had some hard parts, along with some great parts, too! Praying for you to get a Word for 2017... and praying you are ready to... wait for it... embrace it! hehe... xoxo
DeleteOur words for the year are related, mine is ABIDE!
ReplyDeleteOoooooh! ABIDE!!! That is one of my favorite words... (obviously!) --and you're right! They are related! Happy New Year, friend! Here is to a 2017 filled with Dwelling and Abiding --and all the blessings that come with doing just that!
DeleteThis is SO great! And I love your 2017 word.... "dwell" just makes me smile. I'm pretty sure all the Bible verses with "dwell" in them are very lovely ;) Happy New Year to you—stopping by from #Cheerleadersoffaith
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Laura! I agree... Dwell is full of lovely invitations! Happy New Year!
DeleteThis world is spinning into place. Not to worry. Those who dwell in the secret place of the Most High....shall.... oh yes, I'm sure you know this. Dwelling I remain xo
ReplyDeleteAh yes... spinning IN TO place! I love it! xoxo
DeleteHope you are feeling better, my friend! Praying for you!
Beautiful and inspiring. Mine is ABIDE and I think it has some of the same qualities to it. Exploring the scripture - possibly John 15 - abiding in the vine. Excited for new beginnings! Thanks for sharing. Great -- as always.
ReplyDeleteIt should come as no surprise that I ADORE the word ABIDE!!! And John 15... oh my! So much yes! Thanks so much for stopping by, Karen!
