31 Days of Truths We Know... We, the People... DAY THIRTY ONE

We made it, y'all! Can you believe it is already October 31st?

This last week we talked about some POWERful Truths... Truths that deal with the power of prayer, and of words, and of worship!  I hope it stirred you up and served to help you remember these truths that are sometimes forgotten!
Now that we are wrapping this Series up, my prayer for you continues to be that you will find Rest and Reminders!

Rest in knowing the Truths...  and Reminders to help you not forget!

31 Days of Truths... BACON (yes, Bacon!... a Five Minute Friday post) DAY THIRTY

I hit the wall today. As in, slammed it... head on. I seem to have lost my rhythm and all of most of my words.  I was (somewhat) breezing right along in this series and here we are with only two days left and I am Tired, y'all.  So - tried to write all morning and finally stepped away from the computer.  I read a little, napped a little, indulged in a little chocolate... then I stirred myself up enough to show up for the #fmfparty over on Twitter because, my tribe gets me and I knew they would understand.  'They' went and voted for a word prompt earlier and it turns out the #1 voted for word was... well... Let's just say this will be a stretch, my friends! Oh and this: I am loopy, so there ya go!

This is Five Minute Friday (- a five minute timed free write) and our One Word Prompt for the day is: BACON (Yes... Bacon!?)

Really? Bacon?  Well - we know the Truth about Bacon...it's just that we would all rather forget, right? And not just sometimes... but all of the times!

All of the breakfasty times, all of the brunch times, and all of the lunch and dinner times, too!

I mean sure - it's delicious. Most would agree on that truth... but even before the medical research and recent 'findings' about Bacon, we all know it's not good for us!

We can try to act like it's something different.
Dress it up and call it salad by another name...

But we all know that Bacon is not good for us.
Or are we talking about "Bacon"?

31 Days of Truths... The Power of Words (aka Speak Life!) DAY TWENTY NINE

I am sure you can guess, simply by looking at the tagline here, I am a firm believer and releaser of positive words! I believe we are all called to Speak Life, to Be Love, and to Shine On!

We can know that we know that we know that:

The Power of Words
build up or tear down
and we get to choose
how we will use them!
We have the power
to use our words
for Good or for Evil...

...it's just that Sometimes We Forget!

We have all meant well, and lost our temper. (--Hello parenthood, right?) We have all had words spoken over us that tore us down, and have had words spoken over us that built us up.

The building up feels better, right?

31 Days of Truth... Oh the Power of Worship - DAY TWENTY EIGHT

I know I keep saying this, but this Truth... well, this is my jam!  I have a heart to worship and I feel the closest to and hear the clearest from God in the midst of Worshipping.

The Power of Worship
can break every chain
and release freedom...
It makes a way for
Love to come down,
and it unites our heart to His.

...it's just that Sometimes We Forget!

We forget that Worship is a gift for us, but it is to be given back to Him!  It is, as Tommy Tenney once said, the only part of our services that God gets anything out of! He doesn't learn anything from our sermons, no matter how well-crafted or amazing they may be... but when we pour out our worship, we give Him access to our hearts yet again, and oh how He loves to draw near!

31 Days of Truths... The Power of Prayer (for others!) - DAY TWENTY SEVEN

Yesterday we talked about the Power of Prayer and we talked about the importance of being real and vulnerable and praying for ourselvesI think so often we can approach prayer as a gift for others - and it is! But Jesus wants us to give over our own burdens, too! So we touched on the importance of not just handling our own issues by ourselves but giving them over to Him in prayer.

Today... we will talk about this Truth:

The Power of Praying for others
is an honor and a gift.
And when we do it,
we are partnering
with God...

It's just that Sometimes We Forget!

It's true... so often when we find ourselves literally or figuratively on our knees in prayer, we forget that Jesus is already there praying.  We just get to join in!

31 Days of Truths... The Power of Prayer (for me!) - DAY TWENTY SIX

Can you even believe that this is our last week together, digging in to some of the Truths that we know, it's just that sometimes we forget?

I know we are just scratching the surface, but I truly believe that these truths we have (re)visited are vital to our growth and understanding of who He is and who we are and it's when we remember that these are true that we more fully release the Kingdom of God around us!

Here is todays' Truth:

The Power of Prayer
effective and active
in partnering with God
in pulling down a bit
of heaven to earth.

It's just that Sometimes We Forget...

I have to say how extremely thankful I am in how I was saved into a community who fully believed in and relied on the power of prayer.

I was born-again into a group of, as Sarah Bessey lovingly calls us, Happy-Clappy Christians and we learned to pray about everything.

I mean, every. little. thing.

31 Days of Truths We Know... DAY TWENTY FOUR

Hello Sabbath! Aren't you ready for another Saturday? I know that I am!

This week we tackled the Truths of knowing our Identity, Kingdom Living, Choosing Joy, and Being Authentic! Whew... I could probably write on every one of these things for 31days each! (Ha... she says with some trepidation and whisper-prays that God didn't hear that!)

I pray these Truths will continue to sink in deep and that again, throughout the weekend, you will find Rest and Reminders!

Rest in knowing who you are...  and Reminders to help you remember that you're enough!

"My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God."
                                                                                                    Ephesians 3:14-19 The Message

Don't you just LOVE that? I love that verse anyway - but reading it in The Message just stirs me up!

May we reach out and experience the breadth, test its length and plumb the depths! May we rise to the heights and live full lives... and may we never forget how deep, how high, how wide, His love is for us!

31 Days of Truths... More on Joy -a Five Minute Friday post (DAY TWENTY THREE)

I missed out on the Twitter party last night because... well --as strange as it may sound-- because of Thursday night football, you guys! (#GoHawks!)  We had planned for a house full of football fans. But one by one, people had to back out and it ended up just being myself, my Honey, and our Girlie... which is never ever a let down.

And then I got up this morning and I see that Kate is doing it to me again... "You're killin' me, smalls!" I already wrote about Joy this week.  Like, two days ago... you can read it HERE! I actually considered linking it in the "Go" part and calling it good! The fastest Five Minute Friday post known to man, but then that felt a little like cheating, and one can never really talk about Joy too much, right? So here we go...

This is Five Minute Friday (- a five minute timed free write) and our One Word Prompt for the day is: JOY

As an artist... I see colors and colors mean something.  Joy is represented in Oranges and Yellows, because -of course, right? (and so perfect for Fall!)

As a flagger... (yes, I said flagger - as in Happy-Clappy, wave-a-flag-in-worship, kind of person...) Pink is the flag that represents Joy. When I feel like I am lacking joy -or at least feel as if it is needed in the atmosphere, my fuchsia flag is the go-to grab and I wave it in the air and stir up the fruit that we have been given!

31 Days of Truths... In It, Not Of It... DAY TWENTY TWO

Ah yes... this is a Truth that so many of us forget, twist around... or push aside because, well... we like the world.

Today's Truth We Know is this:

We are called to be
IN the world, not of it.
But instead, many of us are
OF the world, but not in it.

31 Days of Truths... Choose Joy - DAY TWENTY ONE

I think so many of the important Truths that we forget stem really on the fact that we have been given the power of choice!

We already talked about how we have can choose to trust, but I think another important Truth that we forget is that we can choose joy, as well.

I was talking the other day with a friend and we were wondering out loud what in the world God was doing giving us free choice! I mean, gah! We choose poorly, or don't choose at all, more often than we make stellar decisions. Still... we have a King who loves us freely, and desires the best for us, but He will not force Himself or the gifts that He bestowed upon us!

We get to choose.

Choose Joy...

For it is the
Kingdom of God!

31 Days of Truths We Know... BeYOUtiful... Be Authentic! DAY TWENTY

Be Authentic... yes, this.  If only it was easy, right?

It's risky to be brave and vulnerable... to just lay down all the masks and stop all the pretending... to answer honestly, instead of reciting the overly used, "I'm fine. How are you?" response.

Here is the Truth that we know:

When we are our most Authentic self,
we are our most Beautiful self!

We are most like who He
designed and desires us to be!

Being authentic takes a bit of brave, yes --but here is what we forget:

It simply takes practice!
The more you risk it, the less risky it feels!

The taller you stand up in your own skin,
the more You you begin to walk in!

31 Days of Truths We Know... Who are you, really? - DAY NINETEEN

Oh, Identity!
This is another one of my favorite messages!

You won't be able to gather around here for long before I accidentally slip up onto my soapbox and get just a little of my preach on!

Knowing who (and Whose) you are is vital... it takes time, but it is you are so worth the investment!

At the Bible study I am attending, one of the leaders was sharing about identity and in passing she said something that struck a chord. If you hang out around here at all, you will know why!

She said,
"The foundation of who He is is that He's a good, good father.
The foundation of our identity is that we are loved by Him."

At the core of our identity... at the very center of who we are lies this truth:

We are loved. We are His.

I think we have only grabbed hold of half of this Identity message.

We know that we're supposed to identify with Christ, sure. But I believe we are also supposed to identify with the person He made us to be.

We have been grafted in and we carry within us the very DNA of God... but we also carry within us something that no one else on earth carries!

31 Days of Truths We Know... Kind - Day EIGHTEEN

Happy Sunday, sweet readers!

Maybe you are noticing a trend here... a routine... a simple short post, featuring a video/song off of Amanda Cook's newest CD, Brave New World.

I am absolutely loving the STORY that this CD tells!

I didn't mean to only feature Amanda Cook this month, but I just can't quit this CD!

The lyrics... the instruments... the official videos... just so good!

"You are not a tyrant king
You do not delight in suffering
Your power doesn’t compensate for insecurity
Cause you are not a tyrant king

You are not an angry man
You do not treat us with contempt
Your voice is sure
Your eyes are soft
Your smile confident
Cause you are not an angry man

You are kind

Your love is a fury all its own
Sweeping the dust and turning feet towards home
Carrying the orphans and resetting broken bones
Cause your love is a fury all its own

You are kind

Your love is powerful enough
Without the fear of punishment "

I'm not sure about you... but me? Well... in the midst of a struggle or a storm, I can forget that He is kind. I can forget that He does not cause these things and He does not punish like we would punish.

No... He is Kind and His Love is powerful...

It's just that sometimes I forget!

Today is Day Eighteen of 31 Days of Truths We Know...! If you missed the kick-off and official 'Home page' for this series, you can go HERE and catch up! 31 Days of Truths We Know... DAY SEVENTEEN

I'm so happy to meet you here for another Saturday!

This week was full of big Truths like how Forgiveness, Grace, and Mercy are for you... and for me... (and for 'them' too!)

I pray these Truths will sink in deep and that throughout the weekend... throughout the month, God will give you Rest and Reminders!

Rest in knowing that you can't earn it...  and Reminders to help you remember that while it is free, it cost Him everything... and it's for everyone!

31 Days of Truths... The Bitter Fruit of Jealousy (aka: Green -a Five Minute Friday post) DAY SIXTEEN

My Honey left the house early this morning to go to a Men's meeting before work, and then went straight from work to a volunteer opportunity tonight.  He always kisses me goodbye in the morning and prays over me and I rarely go back to sleep... so all of that simply means this: I have been up since 6am, all alone, in this empty quiet house for most of the day!

All of that simply means this: I was so ready to party with my tribe over on Twitter (and yes, on Periscope... and yes, I did re-download it but honestly - I am clueless, y'all!  Help a sister out!) and then Kate went and threw us a curve ball for a Prompt and here we are...

This is Five Minute Friday (- a five minute timed free write) and our One Word Prompt for the day is: GREEN  (Yes... Green?)

Really? Green?

Well - this is a Truth we all know and seldom forget:

Being Green with Jealousy
will trip you up & slow you down.
It will steal your peace & rob your joy if you let it!
It never ends well or brings a harvest
of anything good...
it's just that Sometimes We Forget

31 Days of Truth... Mercy Triumphs Over Judgment - DAY FIFTEEN

How are we doing?
You are back. So that's good, yes?

We are at the halfway mark and I just wanted to say thank you! Thanks for taking this journey with me in discovering, admitting, and remembering these truths that we forget...

Some of these Truths are hard, right? Some of them are Truths we forget, and to be honest, some are Truths we would just rather forget... at least some of the time!

The Truth We Know today is this:

Mercy really does triumph
over Judgment

...it's just that sometimes we forget!

This is such a great Truth, much like Grace, when we are applying it to ourselves.  But be stretched to extend it out to someone who you feel is deserving of judgment... to a situation that you feel justified even in judging... Well then, we like to forget the truth of this statement and let our feelings find voice and attitude and ugliness... oh how quickly we forget!

October 14, 2015

31 Days of Truths... Grace, for you (or 'them') - DAY FOURTEEN

Yesterday we talked about Grace for ourselves and that Truth can be hard enough, but today we will tackle the truth about Grace for others.

I know, right? It's hard!

I mean - we can act like it's not... and some times, it really isn't hard. Some times we can freely give and we know and see and feel and hear how His grace comes rushing in and we rejoice with the one being covered and drenched!

Yes - there are those times.
Praise God and Hallelujah.
For real.

But I am talking about those other times...
the times when grace is free for everyone and some of that 'everyone' includes people you don't want to extend grace to.

There's that!
Those are the others that I am talking about!

We know that Grace
is the unmerited favor of God.
It's just that some times we want you
to show us your merits, first.

Or is that just me?

31 Days of Truths... Grace (for me) - DAY THIRTEEN

Abiding Love, Abounding Grace...
It's more than just the title of this blog.

It's always the cry of my heart and a reminder of how I want to live my life! I want to abide in His Love and have His Grace abound in me... I cultivate a closeness that gives little room for anything else to lure me from the One I love.

Oh - there are distractions... there are weaknesses and circumstances and there are days and days that I am not so much abiding or abounding...

But I try to be intentional in staying close to His pierced side and His poured out love. I love Him and I need His Grace... His Amazing Grace... and we all say, "Yes and Amen!"

Only here is the Truth that we Forget:

We cannot earn
His Gift of Grace!
He did all the work
that was needed!
We couldn't have done it
on our own anyway!

...it's just that sometimes we forget!

When we first come face to face with ourselves in light of --well, in light of Light Himself, we see clearly that we are desperate for a Savior. We come to Jesus knowing full well of our deep need of Him.
