DAY TWENTY SIX of 31 Days of Becoming Queen... a Five Minute Friday post.

This is Day Twenty Six of the #Write31Days series, 31 Days of Becoming Queen of Giving the Benefit of the Doubt. Let's see where this goes!

This is a Five Minute Friday post, which simply means I set a timer and free write for five minutes flat on the one word prompt: MOMENT

This week we have dealt with some of the heavier and harder aspects of Becoming Queens (and Kings) of Giving the Benefit of the Doubt... topics like Forgiveness, Making Amends, and Letting Go... all necessary parts to work through if we are going to Be Kind and be less offended.

As we reflected back over these issues, it's quite possible that there were Moments that rose up to the surface! Snapshots frozen in time and somehow they seem to carry with them all the pain and sadness and a sense of loss in some sort of amplified way! But they're not real.

Like a mirage that is not really there, with the passing of time and the offering of the benefit of the doubt, those old wounds should no longer be bothersome. They may still be there... but they are no longer gaping open or bleeding out.

They are scarred over... faded... healed. You can see them and remember the whole reason why they are there but you don't have to relive the pain of the moment every time you look down!

We can pick at them... but we don't have to!

We have the power of choice. We can choose to see them as old wounds (which they are) or we can see them as new scars (which have healed and serve as a reminder --not just that we were hurt, but that we survived!)

We have the choice...

We can focus on the past and the pain
and the people who let us down,
OR we can let go,
and let God, and lean in.
Learn from the past, sure...
but let's not get stuck there,
tied to old wounds...
let's not pick at them
when they are actually
trying to heal.

Let's choose not to stay focused
on the moments of
brokenness or despair,
but let's focus instead on
moments of beauty and delight...
As in - right here and right now...
Look around you (and within you!)
and be amazed at what you can find!

We are surrounded by good things,
Saturated with Light and Love and Laughter...
It's when we get lost in the tattered past
or caught up in a pretend future
that we forget to be thankful for what is
right now... in this very moment!

I think one of the best 'tools' we can learn
in Becoming Queen of Giving
the Benefit of the Doubt is
the power and the gift of

The Gift of Being in the Present is huge...

I think of the song, How He Loves and I'm reminded of the lyric, "I don't have time to maintain these regrets when I think about the way He loves me..."

When we get caught up
in all that went wrong in the past,
it drains us and steals our focus.

And when we get lost in
dreaming of what may be,
we find ourselves missing out
on our actual right here, right now life!

And your right here, right now life?
It's good...

It may be hard and uncertain, too...
I am sure there have been hurts
--bumps and bruises along the way...
After all, you're human
and not one of us
escapes this life in the flesh
without a few scars to bear.

But at this present moment,
the God of all heaven and earth
is just longing, waiting
with baited breath,
for you to turn your heart
and your attention to Him!

He is the Present gift that is
always extended,
always available,
always for you...
because 'He loves us...
Oh, how He loves us,
Oh, how He loves us,
Oh, how He loves..."

We get to choose the Moments
that capture our attention
and that steal our heart!
What kind of Moments
are you choosing?

How much time do you have
to maintain those regrets,
when you think about
how He loves you?

The FMF lowdown: The gathering happens on Twitter on Thursday nights & then we write our hearts out & hit publish all over the interwebs on Thursday & Friday (& sometimes on Tuesdays!) It's where we encourage & uplift... where we share prayer requests & praise reports... where we talk food & friends & we find support & kindred hearts. It's where we are reminded that life is good & God is good & we're not alone... & then we all write for five minutes flat, a flash mob of wordsmiths letting our hearts & our fingers do the talking tapping & we hit publish before we can second-guess it all away. We'd love to have you join us!

  1. Karillee, this is excellent...that those moments we revisit to savour the hurt, they're not real. What an outstanding truth!
