Tapping in to the Maternal Heart of God - A Five Minute Friday post.

I made it to the twitter party for a bit on Thursday and it was so nice to catch up. This weeks' One Word Prompt comes as no real surprise... let's jump right in!

This is Five Minute Friday (- a five minute timed free write) and our One Word Prompt for the day is: MOM

{GO}

"Your children don't have to come from you; they just have to come THROUGH you." ~ "Time" in Collateral Beauty
I know, I know... it's Mother's Day weekend and so we should have seen this prompt coming, right?

I am one of the romantics... I love me a holiday with a theme and to celebrate being a Mom gives me all the feels.  We don't go big in the spending nor do we get caught up in all the commercialism of it all -but give me a day spent with family, with words of affirmation, and maybe a bit of patio sitting in a garden, sipping on something yummy and you are giving me a gift. On any day --but especially on Mother's Day!

This year - well, this year my own Girlie is round with child and while Lil Miss doesn't arrive until September, oh my goodness -what a joy it is to see my Only blossom into a Mama!

But here's the thing:

She has mothered for many years now.

She takes after her Mama and we pour out love and we encourage and believe strongly in the ministry of hugs and cheering you on and of long talks over coffee or tea.

I have said it before, but whether life has been Birthed from Within Your Womb, or Built from the Overflow of Your Heart, it's what Spills Out from Between Your Lips that Creates a Bond... a Pouring Out and Filling Up and Loving Anyway; A Grace Shower, a Forgiveness Offering, & a Holding On While Letting Go through it all...

I have been blessed with an amazing Mom - but my mothering has not been limited to her alone! Some of the best Mothers in my life didn't Birth me, but they did help to Birth Something IN me!

I believe that as much as we talk of the Father Heart of God, there is also a Maternal Heart of God.  We are, after all, made in His image -both male and female.

I don't know about you - but the nurturing, calming yet fierce, protective love of God that covers us and that fights for us reminds me a lot of a Mama's heart!

I believe we are all called to Mother... even if not all of us are ever called, "Mom!"

I realize as much as I love all the celebrating, this weekend is hard on many. Grieving and hiding out takes place all around us and we may not notice, but oh how I hope we do...

If you are honored to be loved on and mothered by someone who maybe doesn't openly wear the title of Mom --at least not the title of Your Mom... I pray you reach out and honor her.  Send her a text or thank her for how she loves you.  Tell her how much you appreciate how she encourages, prays for, and speaks life and truth into you!

We are all mothers... and we all mother.

It all counts, my friends!

And oh how we need each other!

This is no heavy burden.

I can almost sense the Young Mamas feeling pressure to do even MORE now... but no - this is not about more - this is about intentionally mothering both the big and the little all around you.  This is about how it really does take a Village or a Tribe. This is about the Family that we are grafted into and oh my goodness, how we have a Good, Good Father (and Mother) in heaven who leads the way and shows us how to Be Love!

This is about honoring those who love us well, and celebrating those whom we love!

{STOP}

May we tap into the Maternal Heart of God this weekend, and share the love... His Love... to those around us.

May we be mindful of how and who we pour into and mother along the way, and may we be thankful and gracious to those who love and pour into us as well!

Linking up with Kate Motaung and the #fmfparty Community today.  Five Minute Fridays gives us the chance to dive right in and share what He puts on our hearts! Click HERE to read what others have to say about: "MOM"
The FMF lowdown: The gathering happens on Twitter on Thursday nights & then we write our hearts out & hit publish all over the interwebs on Thursday & Friday (& sometimes on Tuesdays!) It's where we encourage & uplift... where we share prayer requests & praise reports... where we talk food & friends & we find support & kindred hearts. It's where we are reminded that life is good & God is good & we're not alone... & then we all write for five minutes flat, a flash mob of wordsmiths letting our hearts & our fingers do the talking tapping & we hit publish before we can second guess it all away. We'd love to have you join us!

  1. Thanks for the reminder, Karrilee. It's so true that a lot of mothering takes place, whether the biological link is there or not.

  2. Some mothers birth you, and some birth something in you...wow, Karrilee, thank you for this!

    You've changed my paradigm. I did not have a good childhood, and 'mother' was something of a loaded word, but you have opened my eyes.

    #1 at FMF this week.

  3. Oh friend, Thank You! It helps to have perspective and think of the gifts that have been given us even if we don't hold that title of Mom. I am thankful for all those I get to mother in my own way and for those who mother me. Relishing in love and time with friends today--people who always love me for me. I'm in the #7 spot this week.
