Satisfied from Wanting Yet Longing For More - a Five Minute Friday Post

I promise I will find my rhythm again and return to my regularly scheduled program of partying it up on Twitter on Thursday nights with my #fmfparty tribe but for now...

--Sickness has me like:

Actually... I am feeling MUCH much better today... I just still sound a little like I'm dying!

This is Five Minute Friday (- a five minute timed free write) and our One Word Prompt for the day is: WANT

{GO}

My first thought goes to Psalm 23... because, of course!

Or more like: because, I've been reminiscing!

You see, I immediately thought back to reading this psalm to our girlie when she was itty bitty and she stopped me before I even got to verse two!
"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want..."
You know how it goes. But to a toddler this sounds like, for some reason, David is saying he doesn't want God.

I loved her curiosity! I loved that she would stop me mid-sentence and wonder why... why in the world would someone not want God?

So we explained it slow... assuring her that what this verse means is that God is so good, that we never are in want.

But that can sound like a fairy tale or a lie... because we all want something, right?

There is always something or someone or somewhere just out of our reach and our hope and desire is wrapped around wanting... except when there isn't. It's possible to experience times when there really is no want...

--And that's the thing!

There is a space and realm where we can dwell when we find ourselves content yet hungry... satisfied from wanting, yet longing for more!

The rest of that familiar psalm goes on to say,
"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever."
I love how it reads in The Message.
It says:
"Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life."

Yes. This.

This is the secret to living an abundant life, full of not wanting and yet always hungering... full of not searching and yet always seeking.

This Kingdom truth of how -always, every day, our God is in hot pursuit of us... of how only He can satisfy and of how when we slow to listen, to reflect, to truly taste and see... we find that we are in fact left not wanting for anything... or at least not for anything that this world can offer!

The Lord IS my Shepherd... and because He is so good at His job... I am left wanting nothing!

Truly Beauty and Love chase after me...

They (read: He!) chase after you as well!

{STOP}

I don't know about you but with all the facebook posts about the end of school years and graduations, matched up with our recent family vacation and some lovely 'facebook memories' of old posts that stir up all the feels (like this one), I've been reminiscing of days gone by and I've been giving thanks for all the ways the Lord takes such great care of me - through every season!

So while often times when one is sick, what we really WANT for is to be made well... gratefulness has been having its' way with me and I have been ever so aware of how beauty and love are chasing me down!

(I'm sure it helps that I am also feeling human once again, praise God!)

Linking up with Kate Motaung and the #fmfparty Community today.  Five Minute Fridays gives us the chance to dive right in and share what He puts on our hearts! Click HERE to read what others have to say about: "WANT"

The FMF lowdown: The gathering happens on Twitter on Thursday nights & then we write our hearts out & hit publish all over the interwebs on Thursday & Friday (& sometimes on Tuesdays!) It's where we encourage & uplift... where we share prayer requests & praise reports... where we talk food & friends & we find support & kindred hearts. It's where we are reminded that life is good & God is good & we're not alone... & then we all write for five minutes flat, a flash mob of wordsmiths letting our hearts & our fingers do the talking tapping & we hit publish before we can second guess it all away. We'd love to have you join us!

I'm also linking up for #FreshMarketFriday... how adorable is that?

How about you? Where are you finding the Beauty and Love? How is He chasing you down today? (For me... today... it's been over coffee with friends and in puppy dog kisses and fresh cut flowers from the garden and a good talk with my Girlie!)  Your turn...

  1. Beautiful hills & stream & flowers. But most of all, beautiful words. I love Psalm 23, and have often broken it out line by line to feel the truth in the words, and the worship in the song.

  2. Hope you're feeling much better now. I love how the Message translates that verse too. So beautiful! SO MUCH THIS: "This Kingdom truth of how -always, every day, our God is in hot pursuit of us... of how only He can satisfy and of how when we slow to listen, to reflect, to truly taste and see... we find that we are in fact left not wanting for anything... or at least not for anything that this world can offer!" I'm over in the 8 spot this week. I too missed the party this week. Love you friend!
